What is the climate like?
The climate in Antarctica is extremely cold. It holds the record for the coldest temperature of -89.2°C - that's very cold! This means it would be very hard to live there. No shops, no schools. The only things really there are some scientists, some animals and, well, ice. Here's a graph to show the temperature all year round...
Unfortunately global warming is melting Antarctica. If it did melt then the sea levels would rise by 61 metres or 200 feet. That's huge! But this shouldn't happen in any of our life times. It is cold in Antarctica because the monstrous continent is so far away from the sun. Therefore it can't get as much heat as England and other countries. This means that a thick layer of ice that has built up.
